NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

It’s what some are calling a toxic culture. The Nashville Metro Public School District is under scrutiny less than one week into a brand-new year.

The head of security and two former principals all under investigation and now some parents are questioning what this turmoil means for their students.

A letter was sent to all Metro Schools employees from the Human Resources Department. It outlines changes being made including how the department is going to handle complaints and investigations.

Three employees are under investigation. Two principals are accused of sexual harassment and the head of security is being investigated for what the district said are concerns over leadership.

"I think it sends a message nobody's watching the ship,” said T.C. Weber, who has two children attending Metro Schools.

Weber ran for the school board on a platform of more oversight.

"If you keep having instances like this, people will leave. They will go to other counties, charter schools or private school,” said Weber.

Former head of security Jimmy Wheeler is on paid administrative leave while the district investigates.

The News4 I-Team has also learned another member of the district’s security team, Jason Overbay, resigned just before school started.

"If we're not taking care of security how do I know we're taking care of instruction? How do I know we're out there making sure we keep the best teachers,” said Weber.

In an email from Human Resources to its employees, the chief of the department said they are hiring an outside firm to take a closer look at the district.

In October, all employees will go through a new sexual harassment training.

The district would not do an interview with News4 on this matter, but a spokeswoman said, “Parents should not be concerned as security is and always remains a priority for our schools.”
